RENAISSANCE UPRISING

In November and December 2011 Laura recieved Arts Council of England Lottery Funding for hew new project Renaissance Uprising. The project so far has included a ten day composer residency at Aldeburgh Music and prior to that a month of preparation, research, development and exploring instrumental ideas. She was joined by the experimental harpist Rhodri Davies and spent the final four days of the residency collaborating and recording her new works

Inspired by Ganassi's recorder treatise on improvisation (from 1532); new sonic avenues are explored using fragments of music from the English Renaissance mixed with free improvisation. Pieces include techniques such as: double recorders, singing and playing the recorder at the same time, harmonics and overtones and double bowed harp.
